The Path to Professional Success

In the pursuit of professional success, young people must define a personal development purpose that includes not only formal education, but the cultivation of personality, the acquisition of social skills and, in general, training for successful performance within the organization or organizations where they are going to carry out their activity.
It is easier to imagine professional success than to define it. It is a subjective concept that varies according to the values, interests and goals of each person. For some it may be that he is recognized as a prominent representative of their guild, having received diplomas, honorary awards or public recognitions. For most, professional success is finding an interesting occupation or job, that stimulates you to get up eagerly every morning and that has a reasonable remuneration.
In terms of education, university studies are today more important than ever and it is even better to have relevant postgraduate studies and certifications. Although in many countries (especially in the United States) higher education is expensive, there are options that allow you to reach satisfactory levels of advanced knowledge. Offers such as Coursera, a system that brings together many universities around the world to offer courses on the Internet on all areas of knowledge (usually free if the diploma is not needed, and in any case, very cheap).
The current slogan is permanent education: personal training must last a lifetime. Refresher seminars, short courses and specialized workshops are indispensable and are available, especially online, in all areas of knowledge to keep us up to date in all fields. Of course, there is also the resource of millions of books, whose cost is minuscule compared to the potential of knowledge they offer.
To stand out, the current professional must acquire additional skills such as ability to work in a team, leadership, time management and the ability to relate. Effective communication is an exceptionally useful skill in professional life. It is essential to dedicate an effort to developing skills in the handling of the language, oral and written, keys to clear, assertive and persuasive communication. People who can speak look smarter than those who do not handle their communication fluently. The ability to write well is only learned in one way: writing. The trick is to try to write something every day (notes, observations, a diary, a simple article). This is how the ability to write fluently is developed.
The other fundamental attribute of the successful professional is his personality, which includes psychological aspects that characterize each individual and include their patterns of behavior, their way of relating to others and their reactions to the various manifestations of the environment that together give coherence to their existential reality. Someone's personality is described, for example, as an outgoing, punctual, kind, temperamental person, etc. The successful professional must be proactive, responsible, restrained and prudent, among other things.
An aspect related to personality is emotional intelligence: This human trait, studied and disseminated worldwide by psychologist and journalist Daniel Goleman, is that set of attitudes and positions that are required to manage our emotions and relationships in the social and work environment. In essence, it includes the ability to understand, put into practice and manage one's own emotions and those of others.
An indispensable strength is the ability to face failures and overcome obstacles in a positive way. It's what's called resilience. Although it is only acquired with experience, reading real-life examples is usually stimulating.
We can't stop emphasizing ethics. It is absolutely essential to maintain solid principles that guide our action and are at the bottom of decision-making. At the center of our paradigms is the dignity of the human person and the fundamental values of honesty, justice, equity and loyalty. Living these values in practice provides us with the necessary emotional balance and spiritual peace.
On the other hand, successful incorporation into a company or organization requires certain visible behaviors. These are mainly demonstrating commitment and responsibility, providing added value and building relationships at work. This requires striking to produce quality results, complying with the rules of the organization, showing a spirit of collaboration and seeking the support of experienced colleagues within the staff.
Good relationships allow you to gain the support of experienced colleagues and cultivate professional contacts that can provide the help of potential mentors and advisors. Strategies to create and maintain these professional relationships include participation in events outside the organization, such as trade union conferences, where contacts are made. It is also very useful to access professional social networks such as those of trade union organizations (associations of lawyers, engineers, teachers, etc.).
Other important aspects on the road to success include maintaining a balance between personal life and professional activity is important to take care of emotional balance, along with mental and physical health. It is already well known that family and friend relationships are essential for a happy existence regardless of our role in life.
Finally, a brief reference to time management. Time is the way we measure the passage of life. In reality, time is everything: it is the framework in which we develop everything we do. You have to try to make an effort to be productive and spend every day in a profitable way.
We have had to live in an extraordinarily interesting time. The challenges that our generation has had have been complex and many fundamental tasks remain unresolved. Today's young people inherit these challenges, plus the challenges posed by the incredible degree of development that humanity has reached. They will have to face with talent and effort the task of continuing the road in the best possible direction.

En la búsqueda del éxito profesional, los jóvenes deben definir un propósito de desarrollo personal que incluya no sólo la educación formal, sino el cultivo de la personalidad, la adquisición de habilidades sociales y, en general, la capacitación para el desempeño exitoso dentro de la organización u organizaciones donde vayan a desempeñar su actividad.
Es más fácil imaginarse el éxito profesional que definirlo. Se trata de un concepto subjetivo que varía según los valores, intereses y metas de cada persona. Para algunos puede ser que se le reconozca como un destacado representante de su gremio, haber recibido diplomas, premios honoríficos o reconocimientos públicos. Para la mayoría, el éxito profesional es encontrar una ocupación o empleo interesante, que le estimule a levantarse con ganas cada mañana y que tenga una razonable remuneración.
En cuanto a educación, los estudios universitarios tienen hoy en día mayor importancia que nunca y es aún mejor contar con postgrados y certificaciones relevantes. Aunque en muchos países (en especial en EEUU) la educación superior es costosa, existen opciones que permiten alcanzar niveles satisfactorios de conocimientos avanzados. Ofertas tales como Coursera, un sistema que reúne a muchas universidades de todo el mundo para ofrecer cursos en Internet sobre todas las áreas del conocimiento (usualmente gratis si no se necesita el diploma, y en todo caso, muy baratos).
La consigna actual es educación permanente: la formación personal debe durar toda la vida. Seminarios de actualización, cursos cortos y talleres especializados son indispensables y están disponibles, especialmente en línea, en todas las áreas del conocimiento para mantenernos actualizados en todos los campos. Desde luego, también existe el recurso de millones de libros, cuyo costo es ínfimo comparado con el potencial de conocimientos que ofrecen.
Para destacarse, el profesional actual debe adquirir competencias adicionales tales como habilidad para trabajar en equipo, liderazgo, gestión del tiempo y la capacidad para relacionarse. La comunicación efectiva es una destreza excepcionalmente útil en la vida profesional. Es indispensable dedicar un esfuerzo a desarrollar destrezas en el manejo del idioma, oral y escrito, claves para una comunicación clara, asertiva y persuasiva. La gente que sabe hablar luce más inteligente que los que no manejan con fluidez su comunicación. La destreza para escribir bien solo se aprende de una forma: escribiendo. El truco consiste en tratar de escribir algo todos los días (notas, observaciones, un diario, un artículo sencillo). Así se va desarrollando la habilidad para escribir en forma fluida.
El otro atributo fundamental del profesional exitoso es su personalidad, que incluye aspectos psicológicos que caracterizan a cada individuo e incluyen sus patrones de comportamiento, su forma de relacionarse con los demás y sus reacciones ante las diversas manifestaciones del entorno que en conjunto dan coherencia a su realidad existencial. La personalidad de alguien se describe, por ejemplo, como una persona extrovertida, puntual, amable, temperamental, etcétera. El profesional exitoso debe ser proactivo, responsable, comedido y prudente, entre otras cosas.
Un aspecto relacionado con la personalidad es la inteligencia emocional: Este rasgo humano, estudiado y difundido a escala mundial por el psicólogo y periodista Daniel Goleman, es ese conjunto de actitudes y posiciones que se requieren para gestionar nuestras emociones y las relaciones en el ámbito social y laboral. En esencia, incluye, la habilidad para entender, poner en práctica y manejar las emociones propias y las de los demás.
Una fortaleza indispensable es la capacidad de afrontar fracasos y superar obstáculos de forma positiva. Es lo que se llama resiliencia. Aunque solo se adquiere con la experiencia, leer ejemplos de la vida real suele ser estimulante.
No podemos dejar de enfatizar la ética. Es absolutamente indispensable mantener principios sólidos que guíen nuestra acción y estén en el fondo de la toma de decisiones. En el centro de nuestros paradigmas está la dignidad de la persona humana y los valores fundamentales de honestidad, justicia, equidad y lealtad. Vivir en la práctica estos valores nos proporciona el necesario equilibrio emocional y paz espiritual.
Por otra parte, la incorporación exitosa a una empresa u organización exige ciertas conductas visibles. Estas son principalmente demostrar compromiso y responsabilidad, aportar valor añadido y construir relaciones en el trabajo. Esto exige esmerarse en producir resultados de calidad, ajustarse a las normas de la organización, mostrar espíritu de colaboración y procurar el apoyo de colegas experimentados dentro del personal.
Las buenas relaciones permiten conseguir el apoyo de colegas experimentados y cultivar los contactos profesionales que pueden proporcionar la ayuda de potenciales mentores y asesores. Las estrategias para crear y mantener esas relaciones profesionales incluyen participación en eventos externos a la organización, tales como conferencias gremiales, en los que se hacen contactos. También es muy útil el acceso a redes sociales profesionales tales como las de los organismos gremiales (Asociaciones de abogados, ingenieros, profesores, etc.).
Otros aspectos importantes en el camino al éxito incluyen mantener un balance entre vida personal y actividad profesional es importante para cuidar en equi8librio emocional, junto con la salud mental y física. Ya se sabe bien que las relaciones de familia y amigos son esenciales para una existencia feliz independientemente de nuestro rol en la vida.
Finalmente, una breve referencia a la gestión del tiempo. El tiempo es la forma en que medimos el paso de la vida. En realidad, el tiempo lo es todo: es el marco en que desarrollamos todo cuanto hagamos. Hay que procurar esforzarse en ser productivo y gastar cada día de una manera provechosa.
Nos ha tocado vivir en una época extraordinariamente interesante. Los retos que ha tenido nuestra generación han sido complejos y quedan muchas tareas fundamentales sin resolver. Los jóvenes de hoy heredan esos retos, más los desafíos que plantea el increíble grado de desarrollo que ha alcanzado la humanidad. Tendrán que enfrentar con talento y esfuerzo la tarea de continuar el camino en la mejor dirección posible.
