Story of Chucho a Homeless Dog

I have decided to share this story to bring awareness to the stray dogs in other parts of the world.

This particular pup’s story takes place in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Not sure what the breed of this handsome boy was or how old he was. We were attending my mother-in
law’s funeral. I was standing outside and noticed him looking at me. He was kind of nervous and didn’t seem sure if it was safe to get close. We gave him space and after a couple of minutes, he decided that yes, it would be safe to get closer and he walked slowly towards me, stood in front of me and looked up with those puppy eyes. His eyes were communicating with me that he was needing some human touch. I got down and started to pet him. I felt so sad leaving him behind because we figured that he was homeless.

At the entrance of the cemetery, we asked the caretaker about him, if he knew if the pup had a home, and he replied that “no, he has no home”, and that the cemetery owner does not want him inside his property. The options were someone had to find him a home or a shelter, put him out into the street or put him down. After hearing that, we made it our mission to find him his forever home. We asked the guy to give us some time to find him a home. We even looked into what documents we needed, just in case we needed to bring him back home to the United States with us.

We asked around if anyone could give this pup a home, and a friend of ours who owns a hair salon was able to find him a home with 2 girls that could not wait to meet him.

When we picked him up at the cemetery, we noticed the guy had given him a nice bath and had also fed him. We put him in the back of the car and we were on our way to meet the pup’s new family.

When we got to our friend’s house and handed him over; we did not get the chance to meet the new family but later on we found out that they had named him Chucho and that he was really happy in his new home.

Animals deserve all the love, respect and care that we humans also need. Let us be the voice for those poor souls who are mistreated or who are left on the streets to fend for themselves.
