After getting stuck in a swamp in Harwinton, Connecticut, Peaches—a deaf senior dog—was safely rescued and reunited with her 90-year-old guardian.

The elderly canine had disappeared the previous night and couldn’t hear her guardian’s calls in the wildlife-rich area, which prompted him to reach out to Harwinton Regional Animal Control for assistance.

Officers arrived to find her at the bottom of a steep embankment, caught in the swamp with mud covering her legs. She was then carried out of the swamp, wrapped in a warm blanket, and taken back to her guardian.

“Now she’s back where she belongs, ready for a warm bath, a good meal, and plenty of love,” Harwinton Regional Animal Control wrote in a Facebook post.

Besides being the man’s companion, Peaches was also the “living link” to the wife he had lost, making her rescue all the more meaningful.

“In saving Peaches, they didn’t just rescue a dog, they restored a piece of someone’s heart,”

Lady Freethinker is grateful to the rescuers whose actions both saved Peaches’ life and protected the precious connection to her guardian’s late wife.
